Polar Bear Mask

Bear Mask

As I prepare for my Arctic artist residency I have started to develop new ideas for work inspired by the expedition as well as to be undertaken whilst I am away.

One of these projects includes a new Wild Man. My previous Wild Man incarnation as Farmer McPhallus took the form of a wolf man. Of course, fittingly for the Arctic, this new costume is being created around the polar bear.

With that in mind I have started constructing a new mask – pictured above. As you can see the mask is in it’s early stages. It has been constructed from polyethylene foam which ensures that it will be lightweight whilst also being able to withstand a fair amount of wear and tear.

I’ll post some more pictures to my blog as the costume develops so keep your eyes peeled!
