Punch & Judy: Half a Pound of Sausages

This is a little teaser ahead of the Pack of Wolves Punch & Judy performance at Milkwood Gallery on Saturday 2 March 2013.

The show will be performed in the tradition of the classic Punch & Judy performances of old. The various episodes of the show will provoke shocked laughter and will be dominated by the anarchic clowning of Mr. Punch.

Milkwood Gallery will be open from 6.00pm on Saturday the 2 March 2013 with the Punch & Judy show and a Jabberwocky shadow puppet show being performed at approximately 7.00pm.

The ‘Once Upon Again’ exhibition continues until the 9 March 2013.

Project Tweave

Thursday, September 1st, 2011
Posted in: Blog

Tweave is a fascinating project through which an archive of the sounds of arts and craftspeople making is being created.

There are already some wonderfully obscure recodings on the website already including Robin Shelton sawing bone to make a piece of jewellery and Felicity Ford’s Crafting with rubbish and waste and plastic bottles.

I also discovered that my friend and colleague Philippa Lawrence has recorded some lovely sounds of her at work tearing and rolling fabric in preparation for binding trees:

Philippa Lawrence cutting and tearing red fabric ready for binding a tree (mp3)

Philippa Lawrence removing threads and rolling red fabric ready for binding a tree (mp3)

You can take part by uploading your own sounds to the Tweave map via the project website using Audioboo: www.tweave.co.uk. Having recently started to make recordings of my own, albeit not of my making, I’m sure it won’t be long before I make a contribution to the Tweave archive.

Tweave was created by Amy Houghton and Ed Holroyd and commissioned by Craftspace.

Hiraeth

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011
Posted in: Blog

Hiraeth is a Welsh word that has no direct English translation. However, the University of Wales, Lampeter attempts to define it as homesickness tinged with grief or sadness over the lost or departed. It is a mix of longing, yearning, nostalgia, wistfulness, and the earnest desire for the Wales of the past.*
