I just stumbled upon this piece ‘Floating Heads’ by Scottish artist Sophie Cave that was exhibited at the Kelvingrove Gallery in Glasgow earlier this year. The surreal nature of the work really grabbed my attention. The lighting also gives the work an overly dramatic look, especially when combined with some of the expressions of the faces, that conjures up memories of numerous films.
I was also extremely interested in this piece because I’ve some new work in progress (that I will get pictures of up on-line asap!) on the go that is similarly comprised of a number of individually suspended items. I’ve been trying to decide how I want them to be suspended. I’ve been torn between individually suspending them (although I would probably still need some kind of system on the ceiling from which to install them) or creating a mobile type work a la Alexander Calder.
I’ve not been able to find out anything much about Sophie Cave beside a handful of blog posts about the same piece of work so if anyone has a link to an artist website then do let me know!
