This is the work of another recent graduate from the University of Glamorgan, Charlotte Burnell. I stumbled across Burnell’s work as she is exhibiting along with other recent graduates, including Amanda Green (below), from UniGlam at TactileBOSCH next month. Admittedly most of her on-line portfolio left me a little cold. Working with a range of media from painting, to film, to live performances I get the impression that Burnell is something of a jack of all trades but master of none.
That said this particular piece stood out for me. Whilst created from apparently luxurious materials it bears clear resemblance to the inner workings of the human body that inspired it. I don’t find the same grotesque qualities within this work that I do within Green’s as the materials used are too plush and somewhat sanitized. It’s much more the tactile quality of this sculpture that appeals to me.
